Apothecary Gallery presents, as part of its arts in the community programme, an exhibition of portraits by the ‘A’ Level Applied Arts students at William Morris Sixth Form.
The works on show are portraits that go beyond being a record of the physical appearance of their subjects. They act as a record and representation of their subjects' lives, emotional states and memories that shape individual character. The students looked at portraits by artists like Marlene Dumas, Paula Rego, Francis Bacon and Edward Munch amongst others. Additionally they were influenced by the literary works including texts by Albert Camus and John Paul Satre.
The works are in a variety of media, including acrylic painting on board and mixed media installation work.
Do join us to meet the students and see their work. Students taking part are: Kamara Andrews, Chloe Bestoyong, Zaynah Dad, Jade Lauren Donaghey, Basil El-Matrawi, Hannah Hafez, Maruf Hussain, Abdul Mokul, Julia Nazareth, Sainab Sharif, Natalia Stachowicz, Nirana Tiam and Cara Amy Wilson.
The exhibition will run until 31st March.
