(Our 2017 - 2018 Maths Leaders Awards)

Nearly half of all the students study mathematics across levels 1 to 3. Our curriculum ranges from intensive support at level 1 in basic functional numeracy, through to further mathematics at advanced level. We also offer a large GCSE programme where students will typically improve on their school GCSE performance by 1 or more grades.

With over one hundred students studying mathematics at A-level, there is a great enthusiasm about the subject among students and teachers alike.  This year we have twelve in our AS Further Mathematics group, reflecting the increasing popularity of mathematics at advanced level.  Level 3 Core Mathematics AS is also on offer here – this subject complements Humanities and Science subjects, concentrating on the application of maths to real-life situations.

In addition to offering Advanced level mathematics, the department is also highly involved with the UKMT and the UK Team Maths Challenge, as well as facilitating and participating in the King’s Factor partnership programme. We have been preparing students for Advanced Extension Award for Mathematics, STEP and Oxford, Imperial and Warwick University Maths Entrance tests for many years.

Every mathematics classroom has an interactive whiteboard.  The mathematics department prides itself on the variety of resources available to appeal to all types of learners, from computer based worksheets to group games and whole-class competitions.  Support outside lessons is available in the form of workshops – 5 hours a week – and extra lessons where necessary.

The Mathematics Department at William Morris Sixth Form can compete with any Mathematics department in the country. The thorough preparation offered by our team of specialist A-level teachers has produced outstanding results across a range of A-level courses year after year.
