Message from the Principal

William Morris Sixth Form in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham was established in 1994 as the country’s first 16-19 school.  We quickly established ourselves as an important provider of post-16 education in West London and beyond. We work in partnership with secondary schools in the borough and also offer places to a wide range of students from elsewhere across London (our present students come from over 100 previous schools or colleges).   We were graded “outstanding” in our most recent Ofsted inspection in November 2006.

We believe that William Morris Sixth Form is a special place and think that the following features are key factors in our success:

  • our high expectations of student and staff performance
  • our concern and care for the individual
  • the quality of our guidance and advice on course choice and progression
  • an exciting range of courses
  • very good facilities and learning resources
  • an enrichment programme
  • offering opportunities for personal development
  • our relatively small size of approximately 790 students
  • a strong tutorial system based on the best sixth form practice
  • our range of student support services
  • the enthusiasm, dedication and commitment of our staff.

I look forward to welcoming you to William Morris Sixth Form.

Kevin Gilmartin

Ofsted Inspection November 2006

The full report is available from us in pamphlet form or can be read on the Ofsted website, www.ofsted.gov.uk or can be read by clicking the download link on the left of this page. We are very proud of the report and the “outstanding” judgement. Out of 26 grades for different aspects of our work, we were awarded

20 at grade 1 (outstanding),

4 at grade 2 (good) and

2 at grade 3 (satisfactory).

We are especially pleased that the inspectors praised our vision for post-16 education and recognised that we value each individual student and support all our students well in their learning. The following quotations from the report give a flavour of how the inspectors found our learning environment:

“The quality of teaching and learning is outstanding – leading to the high levels of student achievement.”

“Students show very positive attitudes to learning, contributing well in lessons and valuing the teaching they receive. They greatly enjoy attending WMSF.”

“A strong sense of community prevails, providing a model of harmonious cooperation within an ethnically diverse population.”

“Relationships between the staff and the students, reminiscent of those found in higher education establishments, create an ethos of warmth and respect in which scholarship flourishes.”

“All students speak with affection and gratitude about the unstinting support and guidance provided by the staff.”

“Students are given every opportunity to be involved in their own learning and in the development of the community as a whole. They respond most positively, showing a very mature approach.”
